Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and who helps us handle it.
Effective October 11, 2026
Who we are
Board Director Institute (“we” and “us”) teaches board service through online courses. Michael Barrick founded it. This policy covers this website, our contact form, and the member portal where you sign in, buy, and take courses. It does not cover other websites we link to, such as BoardMatchHQ, which have their own policies.
What we collect
It depends on what you do.
- When you write to us. Your name, email address, phone number, and your message. We keep a record of the conversation so we can follow up.
- When you buy or take a course. Your name and email, your login details, which course you bought, the price and date, and whether the payment went through. Inside the course we record your progress through the lessons, your assessment results, whether you finished, and any Certificate of Completion we issue to you.
- When you pay. Your card details go to our payment processor. We do not receive or store your full card number or security code.
- Automatically. Like any website, the servers that deliver our pages see your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you ask for, and the date and time. We use this to deliver the site, keep it secure, and fix problems.
Please do not put passwords, full card numbers, bank details, government ID numbers, medical information, or confidential board materials in a message to us. You never need to share them with us.
How we use it
- Read and answer your messages.
- Create your account, give you access to your course, save your progress, run the assessment, and issue your Certificate of Completion.
- Process payments and refunds, and keep our order records.
- Send emails you would expect: replies to your messages, receipts, help signing in, and important notices about your course or this site.
- Keep the site and your account secure, and prevent fraud and misuse.
- Fix problems and improve our courses and website.
- Follow the law, keep the records it requires, and settle disputes.
We send marketing email only if you have asked for it, and every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we may still send the emails you would expect, such as a receipt or a notice about your account. Writing to us through the contact form does not sign you up for marketing email.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Companies that help us run Board Director Institute. Google hosts this website. GoHighLevel provides our contact form, member portal, course delivery and email tools. A payment processor handles payments. We share with each one only what it needs to do its job, and each has its own privacy policy.
- Professional advisers and authorities. For example, our accountant or lawyer, or a court or regulator when the law requires us to share information.
- Anyone you ask us to share it with.
- A new owner, if the business is ever sold or merged. Your information may go with it.
Cookies and similar tools
Our own pages do not run advertising tools or visitor-tracking tools. Our contact form and member portal are provided by GoHighLevel, and they may use cookies or similar technology to work properly, keep you signed in, protect against spam, and measure how they are used. Some pages also load the form or images from our providers’ servers, which means your browser shares your IP address with them, as it does with any website you visit.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the contact form or your course login may stop working. If we ever add visitor counting or other tools, we will update this page.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we reasonably need it for the reasons above. That includes keeping order and refund records for as long as tax rules, other laws, or a dispute may require. When we no longer need your information, we delete it or remove what identifies you. Copies in backups may take a little longer to disappear.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, such as limiting who can see it and using providers that have their own security controls. No website or online service is completely secure, so we cannot promise that your information will never be exposed. If you think your account is at risk, tell us through the Contact page, and please do not include your password.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it; or
- stop sending you marketing email. You can also use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
To make a request, use the Contact page. Tell us what you would like and the email address you used with us. We may ask a few questions to make sure the request really comes from you. Please do not send passwords or ID numbers with your request. We will answer within the time the law requires. If we cannot do what you ask, for example because we must keep a record of a purchase, we will tell you why.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under your state’s or country’s law. We will follow the privacy laws that apply to us, and we will not treat you worse for making a request.
Children
Our courses are written for adults and working professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us information, please tell us through the Contact page so we can look into it and take the right steps.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated policy applies.
